Where Would You Take Your Kids in Europe?

The parents of this little girl answered the question with: everywhere.

If you’re curious about the little girl, Mozart (the online name her mom uses for her), you can read the family website, detailing their multi-year journey at SoulTravelers3.

Although we haven’t been everywhere in Europe, we have been to a lot of different areas in Europe over the last few years with our daughter who is now almost 8.

So far, everywhere we have been to has been a great experience. Both cities and smaller towns have been good for us.

    We have been to:
    England
    Germany
    France
    Spain
    Italy
    Croatia
    Slovenia
    Austria

I think that’s “it” for Europe. It has been a great experience and we hope to continue with our travels.

We have looked at Rick Steves’ Europe guide books for inspiration, lower budget, and for more of a “local” experience.

Happy Mom: That’s amazing. I think it’s so great when people travel with their kids.

And I’m pleased to see Croatia on that list! It’s so beautiful there, but many folks skip it for other “well known” places.

    Keep traveling!

    Christine,

Thanks so much for posting our 1st video which we just put up on Youtube last Feb and were amazed that it went viral! It is nearing a million views, so seems many people are interested in taking their kids to Europe.

One important secret that I want your readers to know is how cheap we travel!! We live large on just 25K a year, total costs for a family of three. We have been to 4 continents and 28 countries, but only took one long flight until our very recent trip to visit the disadvantaged school kids in NYC that follow us virtually.

This video just showcases our 1st 18 months of our open ended world tour, but we have 21 more videos and in the process of making our next European montage and more one-place videos like our 6yo’s violin concert for 60 Berber kids in the Sahara, Venice via Kids literature, or her learning to fly with Harry Potter at Hogwarts when we visited all 4 countries in the British Isles this past summer.

We are really grateful for the opportunity to learn so much as we travel and to have the luxury of time to immerse deeply, especially when we winter in our 15th century village in Spain where my daughter goes to the local school and takes flamenco lessons. We have lots of videos on that topic as well for those interested in knowing more about what living in Spain is like.

Waving to Happy mom above! My daughter just turned 8 and I bet our two girls could have some fun discussions together! ;)

I have to agree with you both on Croatia, we spent over 46 days there last summer and adored it ( as well as nearby Lake Bled and Montenegro). Mozart ended up shooting a travel show that is popular in Japan because we kept running into the film crew around the country and grew fond of each other!

It really is a small world! Traveling with children is the best education one can give to our global citizens of the 21st century!

I dont have my own children but i’m really grateful to my parents who took me to many not only European countries (I’m from the Czech Republic) - they were travelling with me from my 4 years and took me to Spain, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, France - as you can see, I have been to many countries as a little girl. The only thing I regret is that I don’t remember all the experience :-( I dont thing there is only one best place - if it is possible take your children to every country you visit:-)

We’ve had the good fortune to do Spain, Italy, France & some others already. Now that we’ll soon have THREE children, I’d be delighted to take them anywhere in Europe — budget will probably dictate where we go and how we get there. High on my wish list though: Greece & Turkey.

DH and I are both Irish, so our trips to the EU usually start or end either in Dublin or London. But, over the past 12 yrs, we’ve managed to squeeze in:
    - Greece (Athens and Paros x 2)
    - Italy (4 weeks, Tuscany, Venice, Rome)
    - Portugal (Algarve in April - less busy)
    - Spain (Madrid and Seville)
    - France (Paris x 2, Poitiers and Loire Valley)
    I think that’s it - although I’m sure I’m missing some…
My 2c: just get out of the cities and explore the smaller towns and countryside.

Well, duh! of course: Ireland. All over. Although the south and west coastal areas are my favorites :)
