Truth in Advertising

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on November 8th, 2006

RyanAir’s commercial for the £0 offer was refused clearance by the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Center after Monach Airlines complained that the ad was misleading.

I would have done the same.  It definitely is not going to cost passengers £0 since you still have to add taxes and charges.

I am not surprised, though. RyanAir is known to have “potentially misleading” advertisments. Their first fray into that kind of advertisment is when they first advertised destinations.  Say, Hahn was sold as “Frankfurt/Hahn” even if it is 100km away from Frankfurt.

If RyanAir was a child, he would have already been accused of lying by omission.

Don’t get me wrong, RyanAir does offer cheap flights. You just have to make sure that you read the fine print before you press “BOOK”.
