It’s a shop organized by people who are against capitalism and consumerism. Umsonstladens are open to everyone – rich and poor. Rather than throw things away, people go there and give away functional and portable items which others may still find use for. Haggling to get a better price than stated is an art that many have perfected. But, how would you haggle when you are faced by someone who does not speak a word of English? Ironically, the fact that you are obviously foreign definitely calls for you to discuss and get a better price.
So, again, how do you haggle?
You can use your fingers to indicate the price that you are willing to pay. Although that would be tricky if the price is more than 10.

A great (not to mention, strong) alternative, should your shoelaces suddenly retire from all that walking you have been doing.  
Should you ignore that “do not wash clothes here” sign in the bathroom, you could use it as a clothesline after you have broken one of the hostel’s laws.

This empty multi-story building is located in Bremen, Germany. And in August, participants will be free to let their creative ideas soar here.
Sproutbau is a live-in experiment where each participant is encouraged to “explore (their) individual living utopias. The ideas should preferably be in the field of self-sufficient, sustainable living.”

Airlines have this nasty habit of overbooking their flights. In order to make sure that no seat is wasted, they overbook as a back-up plan should any of the passengers do not show up. BUT if and when everyone shows up and there are not enough seats to accommodate all of the passengers, the airlines look for volunteers to give up their seats and take a later flight. If there are not enough volunteers, they are left with no choice but to pick out some passengers’ name and involuntarily bump them.

If this news was good enough for CNN to place on its front page then, it’s good enough for Europestring.
What has this have to do with budget travel in Europe?  The Royal Family, of course.   Unfortunately, getting an audience with the Pope is a lot easier than seeing the Royal Family in the flesh.  Well, at least, you can get to watch the Changing of the Guard at one of the royal residences, the Buckingham Palace for FREE.
