A fabulous budget hotel in the heart of Vienna

Don’t you just love it when you stumble across a great travel value? That’s how I felt while we were staying at the Hotel Austria Wien in central Vienna – what a find! The staff was welcoming and helpful, the rooms were modern, clean, and quiet, and even breakfast was included in the completely reasonable rate we paid. And the location was great, too, in a neighborhood full of restaurants and shops, and just a short walk to the central pedestrian area.

A double room with private bath goes for EUR 109 – 150. You can pay less if you stay in a room with a shared bathroom, and more if you’d like a more deluxe room. See all of their room rates and make reservations here.

Das Park Hotel

Das Park Hotel is an experimental hotel in Linz, Austria where you can decide how much you’d want (or can afford) to pay for your stay.

The catch?

The rooms — which boast of a full headroom, double bed, storage, light, power, woolly blanket and light cotton sleeping bag — are made from refurbished drain pipes.
Toilets, showers, minibar and the café which you can use are from public spaces (the park!) surrounding the hotel.

It’s winter now so they are not accepting guests. You can book in advance when they open again in May, though.

I do not really recommend this type of lodging but, hey, if you are desperate and need cheap digs while in the area, Das Park Hotel is for you.
