Say No to Breakfast in France

Not to breakfast in general, of course, but to breakfast that is included in your accommodations. You will definitely be charged a lot more than what the breakfast is really worth. More often than not, anyway, you’ll just get the standard petit de jeneur which usually means croissant, butter/marmalade and coffee or tea. You wouldn’t want to pay 10-20 euros for that!

And, rather than take what your hostel is offering (unless it is free, of course), you should head out for the local patisserie or boulangerie (pastry shop and bakery, respectively) and get your breakfast there.

To breakfast or not, ça c’est la question! Apart from the money aspect, there are other considerations. It’s so much more fun to go out and try and find a place to grab a bite in Italy and France. You might or might not want to meet people to get travel tips, exchange impressions or whatever. So I definitely throw an eye over the breakfast room before deciding. Mind you, if I’m in a hurry the next morning, I might just choose the faster option no matter what the price might be.
