Mother’s Day in Europe
If you find yourself traveling around Europe with your mom on Sunday (13May), you should try to go adjust your budget itinerary a bit and do something special for Mother’s Day.
You can treat her to a mother’s day brunch in Berlin or wow her with a stay at the luxurious Relais and Chateaux in Spain.
BUT, making your mom feel loved and appreciated on this day need NOT cost you a lot.
In Europe, just like in other countries, the possibilities for budget celebrations are endless.
Unfortunately, with the clouds above us, the strong wind and the likelihood of rain means that planning a picnic may be out of the question. Of course, it depends where in Europe you may be traveling on Sunday. Check the weather forecast, to make sure.
Or…
- If you are in Milan, take her out for a happy hour drink.
- In Barcelona, have a nice dinner at a family-run restaurant.
- Don’t factor out fine dining on that day. Do it over lunch at some fancy restaurant.
- head over to the market (instead of a flower shop) for a bouquet of fresh flowers.
- Head over early in the morning to that pastry shop near your hotel and get a mini cake or a tart which your mom loves and surprise her when she wakes up
- Find something at the flea market on Saturday (if you will be in Germany, skip this tip!)
Wherever in Europe you may find yourself, all you need to do is to look around. You will definitely find something to make your mom happy on Sunday.
As a mother of 2 and a Mother’s day treat recipient for the past 4 years, I can assure you that whatever it is you find to give or do, your mother will surely appreciate it.

The date of Mother’s Day seems to vary according to where you live in the Europe. In the UK it was Sunday 18 March this year. I did a google search
http://www.mothersdaycelebration.com/when-is-mothers-day.html
and discovered that while several countries in Europe celebrate Mother’s Day on 13 May, Norway, Sweden and France are all different.
Whenever Mother’s Day is celebrated in your country, Mums do really appreciate their kids remembering this day, even if it’s a phone call or a card.
