Is Ryan Air too good to be true?

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on April 19th, 2005

It all depends on the traveler’s needs and expectations.

If you expect great service, great connections then, expect to pay more. Nothing comes cheap nowadays unless there’s a catch. And, with these published rates from RyanAir, the catch comes in different forms.

When you want to fly cheap, you should…

1. Expect to fly early or late in the day.
2. Expect cheap seats.
3. Expect delays. And if the flight is, god forbid, cancelled, all you get is a refund.
4. Be flexible with your dates. As an example, you have better chances if you book a flight on Christmas day than the day before Christmas.
5. NOT expect food. They do, however, sell them onboard.
6. It’s ticket less. Your printed online booking confirmation is all you need. The boarding pass is a re-usable, laminated paper.
7. Be alert when boarding. There is only one gate, with one person holding a sign. Should you board at the same time as another flight and miss the sign, you might find yourself on the other end of the globe.

Ryan Air is not for everyone but for those with time in their hands, it is a manna from Budget Travel heaven.

Seriously, it can’t get any cheaper than this.
