Hotel Laundry
No matter how desperate you are, do NOT ever use your hotel’s laundry service. It’s expensive and you would have to send it in at a certain time if you want to get it the next day. If you send it out too late, you may have to pay extra just so you can get it back early the next day. Otherwise, you would have to wait longer.
Cheaper Option: Bring your laundry to the local laundromat. In Germany, as an example, a load of laundry will only cost you 1euro; whereas a shirt washed by your hotel’s laundry service will cost around 2.50Euros.
Best Option: Get a small sachet of detergent (or use shampoo) and wash it on the toilet sink. You can hang it on the balcony to dry or over the radiator/heater.

I always take my tube of travel wash with me ( or as you suggest shampoo will suffice) and do some hand washing of light items when I’m on a trip. In warm countries items usually dry overnight in the balcony. |I couldn’t face arriving home after a trip with a suitcase full of dirty washing. Sometimes you have favourite item of clothing you want to wear more than once during your travels. It’s not always easy to find a laundrette and some clothing is not suitable for putting a tumble dryer, so I find a daily handwash after a shower is simpler.
