Travel to Germany in Winter
Travelling to Europe in winter may have its advantages price-wise but it has its drawbacks as well. Chances are the continent will be under dark clouds. It will be cold and windy, as well. The streets will be empty and some attractions will be closed.
If you are lucky, the sun will shine. But if it does, it will come out late and leave early.

However, despite the cold, there are a few options which may be to your liking, if you come to Germany between now and Christmas.
Winter is the perfect time for connoisseurs of art to explore what European cities have to offer indoors. Museums and art exhibitions are aplenty. A few Lonely Planet clicks would give you the information you need for all museums you may be interested to visit.
And when the night falls and the temperature falls even lower, you can head on out and sample the nostalgic yet joyful German Christmas Markets. Weihnachtsmarkts are found all over the country. The most famous and biggest of which is the Nuremberg Weihnachtsmarkt.
“From big cities to small towns, the smell, sight and sounds of Christmas permeats the air. Stollen, lebkuchen, gluehwein, sausages and roasted sugar almonds will beckon your stomach while you listen to christmas carols and twinkling colored lights guide your way around the old city square.”
Since the local budget airline AirBerlin flies to most German cities from several European cities, you can actually take your pick of where you might want to sample the real German christmasmarket.
If you weigh winter’s drawbacks and the corresponding airline/hotel bargain-basement prices, you might want to think twice. Travelling to Europe in winter may be worth it, after all.
