What is Europe String? Europe on a shoestring (formerly known as Budget Travel Europe) is one of the blogs which joined the b5media family after the merger with About Weblogs. It will be one of the travel blogs under the network, with focus on (obviously) Budget Travel in Europe.

What exactly will you be posting? Tips and tips galore. I think a quick look at the categories I chose would give you an idea of the kind of information I will be sharing.

• Break bread - cheap eats in and around the continent
• Commute - cheaper ways of getting around, whether by land, sea or air
• Forty Winks - where to sleep; from hostels to sleeping at airports
• Did you know? - travel trivia
• Economy-sized tour - focused on a particualr city with combination of break bread, commute, forty winks, etc.
• NEWS - latest budget travel news
• of bandannas and backpacks - featured pictures of readers and their budget travelling experience
• Armchair Traveller

Who are you? My name is Melissa Petri, an expatriate in Germany.

Are you qualified to blog about travel? Architecture may have been my initial vocation but I have earned my PhD in packing light and choosing the best hotels through years of practice. I am an expatriate in Germany; and count the USA, HongKong, China and Korea in my adoptive land list. I have yet to give up my semi-nomadic life as I continue to traipse around the world for business and leisure.

In addition, I am also travel blogging for 9rules/finefools and Creative-Weblogging.

How are your researches made? Since I am constantly on the go, 90% of my updates are/will be researched first-hand.

I have been known to go in restaurants and hotels to interrogate their staff. I have also been known to listen to other tourists in cafès, trying to glean more insider information from unsuspecting travel resources. Chutzpah and wanderlust go hand-in-hand to fill my head with information to share.
