EUROcratese

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on October 12th, 2005

Forgive me if you know this information already but, do keep in mind that there are quite a few people who are confused about the facts which I am about to write down.

Countries currently in the EU are:
Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and the UK.

Countries currently applying are:
Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Turkey.

Note that Norway is NOT part of the EU.

EURO, the currency is NOT used in Denmark, Sweden and the UK. The 10 member states that joined the EU in 2004 will only be ready to use the Euro in 2007. Note that the euro is also used in Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City, as well as in the Azores, the Canaries, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Madeira, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon, which are all part of EU countries using the euro.
