Dining Alfresco

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on May 31st, 2007

PicnicEating out does not just mean going to a restaurant. It could also mean enjoying the summer weather by dining alfresco.

Many restaurants and cafés set up tables outside when the weather is good. But, you know what, going on a picnic will definitely be kinder to your budget. All you need to do is to buy your food from the nearest grocery or just order take-away (which will be a lot cheaper than dining in) and then, you can look for that perfect place (according to your own standards, of course) to sit and enjoy your meal while you admire the landscape.

Now, where oh where should you go?

Well, here are a few of my recommendations:

When in Paris, my family and I always head for the easily accessible and very green, Le parc des Buttes Chaumont. I like the sound of trickling water as I nibble on my cheese. It’s always very interesting to watch wedding groups coming from Mairie which is just right across.

There are tons of other places in Paris that are picturesque and green. Just look around and, well, pick a place to sit.

When in Frankfurt (my second home), I always like going to the river banks, right where the museum row is located. If you’d rather go to a place where it isn’t too noisy, just head further (direction: against the stream) until the crowd thins out.

When in Brussels, we always head for Chateau de La Hulpe, a charming old castle. It’s gorgeous out there.

There are tons of other places to dine alfresco in Europe. All you need to do is wait for the sun to come out and just look around.
