Damsugare: a little taste of Sweden

by jul on February 21st, 2008

IMG 6774When I was in Sweden years ago I fell in love with these little green and brown pastries. They are usually marketed as punschrulle, but the Swedes who introduced me to these treats referred to them as damsugare (which is ‘vacuum cleaner’ in Swedish).

These little guys are rich and flavorful and go great with a cup of coffee. The primary flavors are marzipan, chocolate, and arrack liqueur.

Not heading to Sweden any time soon? Turns out punschrulle are pretty widely available internationally - in the Swedish food market at your local Ikea.

This is indeed a must for swedes… when arrive time for “Fika” (Coffee break) we usualy take Damsugare or Bulle or Kannelbulle.

By the way… popular type of coffee is usally a “Kaffe Latte”

Mmm, I’ll have to try those other pastries next time I’m in Sweden. Last time I never got past the damsugare. :)
