Carnaval de Binche in Belgium

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on February 11th, 2007

Are you planning to take part in Belgium’s pre-Lenten bacchanalia? If you are, here are a few tips on how you can keep the cost down while enjoying the carnival festivities in Carnaval de Binche:

Cheap eats in Belgium

  • Frites (French Fries to you) is the answer to a budget traveler’s grumbling stomach. They’re filling and inexpensive.
  • If you’d like to eat in a restaurant, order the dish of the day (or dagschotel in Flemish and plat du jour in French). It’s cheaper.
  • some cafés also serve food. It’s a cheaper option than eating in restaurants.

Where to Stay

  • you can try nearby towns like La Louvière or Mons. Both towns are around 10km away from Binche and could be a bit cheaper than accommodations in Binche.

Transportation

  • Did you know that Belgium is the best place for hitchhikers? If you plan on hitchhiking, I still suggest that you take precautionary measures.
