Budget Skiing in Bulgaria

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on December 11th, 2006

Andorra used to be the budget skiing haven in Europe. When it became upmarket (improved facilities = higher prices), budget skiers looked (or, should I say skiied) elsewhere. As I previously mentioned, you can get cheap snow action in the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Romania.

At that time, I forgot to mention Bulgaria (thanks to Dimitar Vasselinov for letting me know).

Anyway…

In Bulgaria, you can go skiing in Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo.

Bansko is Bulgaria’s major international resort. And recently, it has been named by 2007 Great Skiing & Snowboarding Guide as the “best-developed ski resort in Eastern Europe”. Unfortunately, due to this and the new developments in the resort, the price trend in Bansko seems to be following that of Andorra’s.

So if you want to get really cheap deals for you next skiing vacation in Bulgaria, Pamporovo is your best bet.
