Europe String

Budget Budapest

by Melissa Atienza-Petri on June 21st, 2005

With careful planning, a few hours doing online research and some small sacrifices, even students with meager allowances can afford to tour around Europe.
I will not write flowery words about the cities which I consider value-for-money travel options. Anyone with enough time and internet or library access can look for the info themselves. Instead, I will point student travellers to the right direction-where they can get real value for their money or, if available, where freebies can be found.

BUDAPEST, the capital of Hungary, is a more affordable travel option in comparison to it’s wealthier neighbors. The city offers interesting sights and wonderful views.

Gerbeaud - famous Café in Budapest, with variety of cakes available; can be found at Voros, arty ter 7, U-bahn 1
Klauzal sorozo-etterem - delicious Hungarian fare with big servings/portions and friendly service; can be found at Klauzal ter 11, U-Bahn 3: Blaha Lujza ter

Where to stay:
Traveller’s Youth Hostel - cheap, centrally-located and with good connections to public transport.

Nightlife:
Club Verne - offers good live music every evening, a “secret” place for expats away from the tourists; can be found at Vaci utca 60, Tram 2 Bus 15
