7 Years in Europe

May 3 marks the 7th year I have lived and worked in this continent. I have visited countries that lie between the Arctic and the Atlantic Oceans, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea.

7 years in Europe means that I have spent:

• 7 summers discovering more than just the famous tourist spots (ca. 3-5 weeks each)
• 7 x 12 weekend getaways (2-3 days each)
• 7 x nbusiness trips (ranges from a day trip to 6 days)
• 7 winter seasons snowboarding in the Alps, on different valleys and countries

I can’t write like Heinrich Harrer and give 7 years in Tibet a run for its money but I sure can do something here in EuropeString to commemorate my 7 love-hate relationship with Europe.

So, what will I do? Read further and you will find out!

All of what I have written here (except for current news and airline offers; and some tips from dear readers) were written based on my previous travel experiences. To mark my 7th year, I will do something else.

I will create a new category and write a series of entries about places which you (and I) may want to consider. So, what is special about that?

Well, these destinations will be chosen based on the following criteria:

• The names will be difficult to pronounce and/or spell. At least, for us, English-speakers. (inspired by a chapter in the book How Low Can You Go
• These destinations will be directly served by one of the many budget airlines in Europe
• Your travel cost will be minimal
• Like most of you, I have never been to any of these unpronounceable, budget locations

Here’s what you can expect:

• A quick lesson on spelling and pronunciation
• A quick lesson on geography
• Detailed How to Get There (budget option, of course)
• Tips on what to do
• Ideas on where to stay and what to eat

Our new category? Sounds Greek To Me

Our first destination? Rzeszów
