Where are You Going in 2009?
As this year comes to a close, I’ve started dreaming about the next big trip around Europe… Where will it be? Back through France, Italy, or Spain? Or somewhere new like Norway or Finland. If you’re anything like me, then you already have a dream list of places in Europe you’d like to go (did I hear someone say everywhere?) and I want to hear about it.
I did a small poll on twitter and here’s the responses: 40% France, 30% Italy and 20% UK.
Clearly this doesn’t cover everyone’s plans so I’d like open it here.
-Where are you planning on going in 2009?
-What places do you want to hear about in 2009?
-And where would you like to send me, your intrepid author?
As I plan my travels for next year, I’ll keep your places in mind, so I can report from the locations you want to hear about most. If no one comments, then I’m just going to spend 3 months in Italy, getting fat on pasta and drinking too much wine. Sure the 100th post about how much I love fresh bruschetti might get a little boring, but after a bottle or two I’m sure at least I won’t notice.
Oh Yes, and a Winner:
Last week we had author Craig Martin on board to tell us about his new book. This week, reader NewWrldYankee was picked as the winner! Stay tuned for the winner of the Pocket Comm, which will be announced early next week!

Always Paris (or Amboise if I’m feeling like a little country girl)
I really, really, REALLY very much want to go to Iceland in the summer. It all comes down to if I want to finish my degree in the summer or put it off for another academic year…*Sigh*
Also, Russia is on the list. I’m totally a northern European kind of gal. I just like the cold, what can I say?
Who knows? We like to keep things open and we never know, suddenly we’re on the way…
Only 2 places are for sure: The island Faro at Gotland, Sweden in July. And France in August.
Before that we wanna go somewhere too, so we’ll see what comes up. And in the autumn around the beginning of October too.
The wish list is VERY long…. *giggles*
Europe, NZ, Australia, Hawaii, Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica….. We’ll have to let the faith – and wallet – decide
I could also go back to both Iceland and Scotland, my favorites…. So many choices!
how about some lesser known places in Eastern Europe? Maybe some great (cheaper) ski places in the Czech Republic or Slovakia?
oh yeah, and if people want the UK, the southwest coast is a beautiful place to visit, not enough people get there.
Chelsea- We just got back from Iceland and absolutely loved it. We’d love to go back in the summer when there’s more daylight.
We are headed to Amsterdam in 2009 and trying to decide where to go from there. Maybe add in Brussels, Bruges or some of Northern Germany. But we’ll have two weeks at most, so it’s hard to pare down the wish list into a manageable itinerary!
Unfortunately I’m no longer going out to Italy but now and rethinking a nice small trip to Montreal. It’ll be different but still something new and exciting, I hope!
Italy for two weeks and Croatia for one week. Those plans are made. Still open to other consideration for balance of the year.
Ok so here’s what we’ve heard so far:
Amboise
Amsterdam
Bruges
Brussels
Croatia
Czech Republic
France
Iceland
Italy
Northern Germany
Paris
Russia
Scotland
Slovakia
Sweden
The island Faro at Gotland
UK, the southwest coast
Hmmm… sounds like an itinerary to me! Anywhere else? After the New Year, maybe what I’ll do is let folks vote on where I go…
I want to take my family on a summer vacations each June and show them the world. They are 15 and 11 year old boys. We have done the Carribbean and Mexico . I would like to take them to europe, south Africia. south america etc. We want to be safe value travelers.France2009! help…
Next year we are planning for The Rose Festival of Bulgaria, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Cinque Terre, and a return to Paris. I’d love to see some feature writing about Bulgaria out there. I am an ex-pat in Sofia and suggest a few ideas for Bulgarian travel on my blog at: http://fromanotherangle-bb.blogspot.com/.
