It’s time for another edition of fabulous moneysaving travel tips!139344191_a89d56a043

How do you get from the airport to your hotel? Not by a taxi, folks, please choose public transport. Most cities have decent bus, metro or train links from their airports to the city center. Information on how to do it can often by found on the city’s tourism bureau website, but if not simply search “airport city transport Prague” or some other such phrase. Not only will you save yourself a decent chunk of change, you’ll also be beginning your education on the city’s public transport system.

We’ve written about city cards before. They are the promotional cards many cities have that offer free or discounted admission to popular tourist sites, and sometimes include free public transport as well. There are pros and cons to these – find out exactly what is covered by the card and how long it is good for before buying. How many of the places included were you actually planning to visit anyway? Would you use public transport or is the city compact enough to walk around? And can you hit all 5 museums in the 24 hours the card is good for? European City Cards is run by the European Cities marketing folks. They recently re-launched their website and it is quite useful. The last time I recall purchasing one of these cards was my first visit to Paris. Based on the information here, I’ll probably buy the Copenhagen card when I go their next week.

Podcast fans will want to visit Rudy Maxa. The savvy traveler has partnered with National Geographic to produce free podcasts of walks in cities all around the world. European destinations include Berlin, London, Paris, Rome, Venice, Vienna, Barcelona and Amsterdam.
