Munich’s Starkbierfest: like a tavern, only bigger
In honor of Tavern Day, here’s a little post about drinking in Munich. (I know what you’re thinking… “There’s drinking in Munich ?” I was shocked, too.)
This weekend we partook of the annual Munich Strong Beer Festival (or Starkbierfest), a fabulous Bavarian tradition. Each year for a few weeks during Lent, the local breweries open their banquet halls and cellars for this festival celebrating Starkbier – a heavy, sweet, dark brew thought up by fasting monks who wanted some nourishment (but weren’t so interested in sobriety). Recent carnivals of interest
The travel blog carnivals are multiplying these days, with several out there covering topics of interest to the traveler interested in Europe on a budget.
Europe A La Carte is hosting the Europe Travel Blog Carnival. This carnival features stories from a variety of destinations, including Rome, Stockholm, and Cornwall. You’ll also notice my post about combination tourist passes in there, too.

My love/hate relationship with Orbitz
I think Orbitz was the first online travel site I ever booked through, years and years ago, but recently it has been frustrating me. Not quite enough to keep me away when their fares pop up as the lowest on Kayak or Sidestep, though. I usually end up booking plane tickets through Orbitz at least a few times a year, but I have a real love/hate relationship with the site.
Things I like about Orbitz:
They’ve been around for a while and are well-established, so I can feel safer about giving my money to them than to a new fly-by-night travel website.
