Looking for a cheap, compact way to stabilize your photos?

As much as I love taking pictures when I travel, I hate lugging around big equipment. I usually travel with a compact digital camera, and I never bother with a tripod.

Although I’m still able to get great shots most of the time, the problem I most often encounter is camera shake, which leads to blurry pictures. My husband’s solution to this is to use the top of my head as a camera stand (affectionately referring to me as his ‘bipod’), but what’s someone like me supposed to do when there’s no one shorter around to pick on?

I was amused to come across this video the other day, which offers a solution to just this problem. The suggestion is cheap, easy, and compact – but does it work? I’m looking forward to giving it a try.

Genius! I’m on my way to the hardware store for all of the necessary items!

That’s a pretty neat idea. I’ve seen a similar trick, where a loop is made out of the string, with one end of the loop placed under your foot, and the other end placed over the camera’s lens.

I’ve been using a mini-tripod – same size as this, but with flexible legs: http://www.apeshop.com/images/accessories/minitripod.jpg

It’s nice and light, and good for quick shots that need to be stable, as long as you have something to prop the camera up on…

    Cheers,

    Paul

Paul – I think we have the tripod you’re talking about – a Gorilla Pod, maybe? My husband loves it, but I rarely think to bring it with me.
