Even after 8 years of living in this continent, I still have not lost the feeling of excitement every time I visit a new European City. I still feel like a tourist even as I visit places which I have already seen. Since I am earning Euros, I thought that I might as well take advantage of the current dollar/euro exchange rate and head for good ‘ole USA rather than tour around my current home.  So, off to New England, I went.

Just like in other countries, flying to another (relatively nearby) airport may be better for your wallet in the Netherlands.

If you are planning to visit Amsterdam and find that flights to Schiphol Airport are pricey, you may want to consider checking flights to Eindhoven and Rotterdam Airports.

And from those airports, you can make your way to Amsterdam.

You can get to most tourist destinations by foot. The city is flat and relatively small. Walking from one tourist site to another would be good for your health and your wallet. Plus, you’ll really see everything in detail.
There’s a wide range of budget hostels which would fit any Budget Traveler’s budget. As far as I can remember, the Flying Pig is the most famous of these budget hostels. For the cheapest option, look for a dorm room (obviously, you need to share your room with other travelers) in a youth hostel.

If you are planning on visiting any of Amsterdam’s famous coffee houses, make sure that you prepare ahead of time.  Before the store — the type where you can buy food — closes, you need to get some supplies for later. You know, when you get the munchies.
To save a few Euros, try buying at any of the Lidl or Aldi stores in the city. You can find them at the following addresses:
