The Tumbleweed Hotel

Do you love intellectual conversations? Are you a voracious reader? If so, Tumbleweed Hotel could be THE hotel for you — dear budget traveler — when you go to Paris.

The Tumbleweed hotel is the name given to the second floor of a bookshop where beds are placed amongst books. If chosen, guests of this hotel stay for free provided that they do one hour of chores each day (like dusting and sweeping) or they can profess their love for books by reading one.

There’s another condition, though… as soon as the bookshop opens, you have to get out of bed. Not a bad deal, eh?

So how do you get chosen to stay at this interesting kind of accommodation? Well, writers and book lovers who are in need of a place to stay are invited. Boohooo for me, I didn’t get invited. Perhaps, it was because I had a kid in tow. hehe

Tumbleweed Hotel is on the second floor of Shakespeare and Company, owned by George Whitman. It is located on the left bank, across the Seine from Notre Dame.
