Where to Watch Live NFL Games While in Europe

NFL Season 2007NFL season will officially start on Thursday, o6 September 2007. Many Americans will understand when I say that this is something BIG. Touring Europe for the first time is also something BIG. Just that these are two different things and they are both HUGE.

  • If the only great travel deal your wife/girlfriend/mom/sister has found is during the NFL season; and
  • If you like to see Europe but would LOVE to watch the games

then, you are probably tearing your hair out right now.

But, there is absolutely NO need for you to go bald this early in your life yet. Because you can still watch the games wherever in Europe you may be gallivanting this September.

YOU CAN WATCH NLF GAMES FROM EUROPE IF YOU:

  1. Check into a swanky hotel which has NFL Network, CBS, ESPN (this is easier to come by), FOX, NBC, DirectTV and Westwood One. But, if you could afford to stay in an expensive European hotel, you wouldn’t be reading this blog, would you? So… on to our next option…
  2. Get an NFL Games Pass from Yahoo Sports and watch it LIVE online. Scour the internet cafés in your chosen destination and check the kind of computers they have. Pray that their computers pass the system requirements of NFL Games Pass. It’s not free, though.
  3. Cheapest Option: Unless you are planning to stay in Europe indefinitely, you can just enjoy Europe AND wait until your return to the US to watch the remaining games. At least, you will be able to see all those wacky commercials they have lined up for this year which is IMO a big part of the whole NFL experience.

That’s good info as my wife and I are planning to move to Europe next year.

I was in Barcelona 5 years ago when the Super Bowl was on and I looked all over for a place to watch and couldn’t find much except Hard Rock which I stayed at until 4am when it ended.

I missed a whole season when I lived in Australia, never could manage to make it down to the casino in the middle of the night. But I did catch the Super Bowl, Monday morning mamosas and beers!

One of the downsides is that you have to stay up really late or wake up really early just so you could watch. But… anythign just to be able to watch it, right? ehe

I am in Paris until November so if any ex-pats who watch NFL in Paris know of a good place, let me know! Otherwise I’ll be buying the Yahoo pass and watch on my laptop as I have ADSL.

I live in Holland and watched my Broncos kick butt LIVE!!! There’s a program that can be downloaded off of the internet that allows you to watch streaming media from around the world on your laptop/pc as long as you have good internet. I paid $9 for the program on E-bay and it worked great!!

Another option, if you’re an expat, is to pay 9 Euro a month for a subscription on a cable box that you can buy on the local economy (about 90 Euro). With that service you get about 400 channels to include the North American Sports Network (NASN) and they play games live, to include tennis, baseball, hockey, etc. Only problem is that they only play 1 game at a time. The good news is that they will replay games that weren’t played live for the next 2 days or so. That’s how I watched the Superbowl last year: we threw a party at our house at around 4 AM to watch it. If that isn’t dedication, I don’t know what is!

Hope this helps some of you out!!

    Bridget-

i was in Paris last week for the season opener and i COULD NOT miss the Pats/Jets games (now PatriotGate 07). there is a Canadian Pub called Moosehead at 16 rue des Quatre Vents, 6e. it is a bot hard to find because of the winding streets. they show several games every Sunday night and maybe even Monday, too. more info here: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/paris/N28721.html

I’ll be in Paris Thursday, 11/22 (Thanksgiving)….anyone know where I can watch the big Thanksgiving matchup of the Green Bay Packers and Detroit? I realize it’ll be on late, but I’d like to see it.
