If plan on traveling by train without a rail pass (buying retail!), please keep in mind that…

  • slower trains are cheaper than the faster ones (ex. in Germany, RE is way cheaper than the ICE)
  • travel overnight, if possible, to save the cost of a hotel.
  • ask if there are special offers. what you don’t know could hurt your wallet.
