Taking the Train

If you…

  • Would rather take the scenic route
  • Arrive right in the center of the city (an advantage which most budget airlines cannot list)

then, you might want to consider traveling around the continent by train.

Personally, I always associate train travel to touring around Europe. It is still one of the best ways to go around most European destinations.

If you would want to travel by train, here are a few things you need to know to keep the cost down:

  • Eurailpasses can only be purchased outside of Europe. It definitely is much cheaper than if you buy individual train tickets when you get here.
  • Before you head for the train station, go to a supermarket and stock up on food and drinks. Food and drinks are available on the train but they cost a fortune!
  • Note that if you buy a Eurail Select Pass (limited day and number of country travel), Benelux countries – that’s Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembour — are counted as 1 country. You’d see more for less if you include those countries in your itinerary.
