It’s Cheaper in Uppsala
Stockholm was, as expected, expensive. To save on cash, it would do you good to head for the nearby (70km away) Uppsala, one of Sweden’s oldest city, after you have gone around Stockholm.
There are good budget accommodations in Uppsala. In addition, it is relatively easy to find cheap eats since prices are catered for the big student population.
To get to Uppsala from Stockholm, take the Swebus Express or the SJ trains.
One of the good cheap fastfood places in Uppsala is Saffet’s. Unlike McDonalds, the have more than just french fries and burgers. At Saffet’s, you can also order baked potatoes and fish and chips. Surprisingly, their menu also includes kebabs and enchiladas. It’s a fast food after every taste.
If you compare the price of french fries (pommes frites), McDonald’s cost 379Skr wherease at Saffet’s, it only costs 306Skr. Saffet’s is at Stora Torget 1.
