Helsinki on a Budget

I just found out that the latest European capital of cool is none other than Helsinki in Finland. Check out This is Travel for an overview of Helsinki’s charm.

As for budget options, that is what I am here for.

By AIR, you can get to Helsinki on budget airlines like RyanAir (via Tampere from Frankfurt/Hahn or London) and Blue1.

Sightseeing? Buy the Helsinki Card. A €29 card entitles you to free city transport, entrance to 60 attractions and additional discounts for 24 hours. If you visit 3 sites and ride the bus/tram 3 times, you will save €16.50. Imagine how much you can save if you see more?!

Budget dining? Right smack in the center of Helsinki (between the streets of Mannerheimintie, Simonkatu, Yrjönkatu and Kalevankatu) is the Forum Shopping Center. Head for the basement. That’s where the food court is. Or, you can always just head for the train station’s pedestrian tunnel and go shopping for food at Aleppo supermarket.

Reminder: Autumn may mean rains. It is always best to pack a rainjacket.
