The B5Media network:

Skiing or Snowboarding in Europe

Want to travel all the way to Europe to get your annual fix of the white stuff?

Here are a few information which may help you decide:

  • “The mountains in Europe are simply bigger — grand, jagged, rugged, inspiring and soaring.”
  • “In Europe, vertical drop is rarely mentioned when discussing resorts, but averages more than double of those in the U.S.A.”
  • “Europeans have a different attitude towards skiing and snowboarding — far more relaxed, leisurely and social. “

And when it comes to $ or €:

  • “Lift tickets at European resorts are far more reasonable that in the USA”
  • “In Europe après-ski seems to be an all-day affair.” And you know what that means? You will get more out of what you will pay.

Next question… where (if budget is your main concern) should you go skiing/snowboarding in Europe?

With the most expensive (generally) as number 1, we can rank places in Europe for skiing/snowboarding as:

  1. Switzerland
  2. France
  3. Germany
  4. Austria/Italy
  5. Andorra
  6. Eastern Europe

Andorra used to be the cheapest but with the big changes for the past years (huge investment to improve facilities), it might have already changed. I have been told that the cheapest place to go skiing now is in the Romanian slopes of Carpathian Mountains.

Note: Do come back for the details on budget skiing and snowboarding. I will post them as we slowly near the Winter season.
