In Germany but NO tickets for a World Cup 2006 Game

As mentioned in the local newspaper, thousands of football fans are currently milling around the host cities in Germany. Only a few, however, are real ticket holders.  Some of those without tickets are spending their time bidding on eBay.  A few, I have observed, are posting signs with “need world cup tickets” all over the bahnfhof (train station).

I can imagine how expensive tickets may cost now.  Not exactly what a budget traveller could afford.

So… if you are already in Germany, you can still revel in the World Cup atmosphere without having to shell out a considerable amount of money.

In Frankfurt… you can watch the matches free from a gigantic LED screen floating on the Main river, with all the other fans by finding a spot on the riverbanks of the Main river (between Eisener Steg and the Ignatz bridges).

If the place is already packed, you can also head to the Roemer or Fressgass.  Or, to any of the restaurants in the city center. TVs and fans abound in all areas.

Next: Where to go in Munich if you do not have tickets.
