Cheapest and most Expensive Cities in Europe

Cheapest and most Expensive Cities in Europe

The Cost of Living Report by Mercer Human Resource Consulting is designed to ”measure the differences in cost of living that expatriates and their families encounter when transferred abroad.”
Of course, this also reflects the cost which travellers might incur when vagabonding.
And in Europe, Budget Traveller you might want to avoid Moscow as this Russian city was cited as the MOST expensive city in the World!  Other costly cities include London, Geneva, Copenhagen and Zurich.
You’d be glad to know that Eastern European cities (except for Kiev in Ukraine which moved up due to the value of the local currency against the dollar and …read more

Travel Discount Cards

Travel Discount Cards

Why pay full price when you can actually get discounts for entrance fees to museums, accommodations and/or transport?!  Especially for students or travellers 26 years and younger, student/youth cards would mean money saved.
Check out the following to maximize your dollars:

International Student Exchange (ISE) card and the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) membership are the two options available to students.
The International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) is the alternative for those who aren’t enrolled but are under the age of 26.

Driving in Europe

Driving in Europe

So you managed to borrow a car for free (or find a cheap car-rental) to get you from one European destination to another.  Good work!
In addition, you have taken great care in planning your itinerary.  You manage to choose to go to places where you can take advantage of the price of fuel.  Congratulations!
There is another thing you should consider, though.  Even if you manage to get cheap (or free) car and gas, you may end up going over your budget if you are stupid and have forgotten to take note of what is NOT allowed in European roads.
Note that just …read more

Ticketless in Stuttgart during the World Cup

Ticketless in Stuttgart during the World Cup

In Stuttgart, matches will be held at the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium.
You do not need to miss the excitement if you do not have a ticket.  Head off to the Schlossplatz (city center) and watch the games with millions of other World Cup fans on large screens strategically placed around the Jubiläumssäule (Jubilee Column).  Check the programme schedule at the Schlossplatz here.
Should the crowd be too much to handle for you, head to a bar, café or restaurant.  Most of which have TVs set up so customers can watch the game.

Public Viewing of the World Cup in Munich

Public Viewing of the World Cup in Munich

That’s the FIFA World Cup Stadium in Munich. Isn’t it a beauty?
Anyway, just like in all the other host cities, Munich has prepared a public viewing area for those who didn’t get hold of a ticket to watch the game live at the FIFA Stadium. The best public viewing area (and the only official one) is at the lakeside amphitheater at the Olympic Park. 20,000 fans can be accommodated to watch from the 60 sq.m. screen on pontoons in the middle of the lake.
As how it is in other venues, there will also be no shortage …read more

World Cup and German Beer, Part 2

World Cup and German Beer, Part 2

Con’t of World Cup and German Beer, Part 1…
As I have observed from everyone all around… I guess, it is safe to assume that watching the games would not be complete without a beer (or two) in hand.
Of course, none of us should go the hooligan way.  Everything should be in moderation but I am not your mother so I will spare you my “do not drink too much…” litany.
Anyway, when in Germany, there will definitely be no shortage of beer. You can buy them all over. All the public places where you can watch the games in public would definitely have …read more
