Fine Dining on the Cheap

Fine Dining on the Cheap

If you’d love to dine superbly and have luxurious taste, a trip to Europe is your best bet. This continent is, imho, an epicurean’s dream destination.
Problem is… you probably cannot really afford to pay to dine in any of those famous European restaurants listed on Michelin Red Guides, what next?
Well, you can check out our archives and save on everything else. And then splurge on one (or two?) meals at a restaurant famous for its good food.
In addition, you can still save a bit if you…

MERRY CHRISTMAS

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I hope that all of YOU are home with your friends and family or are, at least, on your way back home (especially those who were stuck in the UK and whose flights were delayed due to the thick fog).
“Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home!”
~Charles Dickens, The Pickwick Papers, 1836
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU!!!

SkyEurope Pays Your Taxes

SkyEurope Pays Your Taxes

Tired of seeing all those ++ signs after the numbers which are supposed to tell you how much you need to pay when in fact you will be paying a whole lot more?
++ signs means additional $$$ for taxes and charges. With taxes, you can actually already gauge how much will be added on top of the real airfare rate. However, the “charges” part is tricky.  Airlines can add whatever charges they can think of over here.
Anyway… for Christmas, SkyEurope will spare you the suspense of not knowing for sure how much the fare really costs. No taxes, No Charges …read more

Budget Skiing in Bulgaria

Budget Skiing in Bulgaria

Andorra used to be the budget skiing haven in Europe. When it became upmarket (improved facilities = higher prices), budget skiers looked (or, should I say skiied) elsewhere. As I previously mentioned, you can get cheap snow action in the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Romania.
At that time, I forgot to mention Bulgaria (thanks to Dimitar Vasselinov for letting me know).
Anyway…
In Bulgaria, you can go skiing in Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo.
Bansko is Bulgaria’s major international resort. And recently, it has been named by 2007 Great Skiing & Snowboarding Guide as the “best-developed ski resort in Eastern Europe”. …read more

Tax Hike for Air Travel from the UK

Tax Hike for Air Travel from the UK

As reported, air passengers leaving UK will be facing an increase from February 2007.

On short -haul flights, you can expect a tax increase of £5 to £10 per economy class passenger.
On long-haul flights, you have to cough up £40 for economy class (double for business class but that definitely would not apply to you, dear budget traveler).

TIP to skip paying that £40: As mentioned by the Global Traveller, just head for another major European city airport and fly to your long-haul destination from there.
