budget accommodations for the World Cup 2006
Now that the final draw has finally been er… drawn, you can now start planning your trip around the games schedule. As expected, German tourism is now experiencing the onslaught of bookings for hotels, pensions in all the participating venues. Apart from that, we are seeing the increase in prices and the realization that accommodation capacities are limited.
Should you be one of the lucky 5000 who won your tickets to the WM2006 at McDonald’s, you may now be wracking your brains (or pestering your friends) for the name of a friend of a friend of a friend who happens to live in Germany. Because, I assure you, hotel and pension prices during the World Cup will not be affordable to a budget traveller.
This is where the initiatives of Michael Preetz, an ex-national player and WM Ambassador and Stefan Kuntz come in. With the support of T-Online and WM Fankurve, the GdW Federal association of German housing and real estate enterprises as well as MeineStadt.de, “staying overnight with friends” is now available under WM-Zimmer-2006.de.
Through this portal, you can now search for rooms which fit different budgets and in varying peripheries around the venues. Offered by private people, this would open all sorts of possibilities to those who just can’t afford paying for a “normal” hotel rate.
